It is Sweater weather in the Rio Grande Valley and I couldn’t wait to pull out this cute sweater dress I got for Christmas. The color is beautiful and it is very comfortable! By the way it was super windy so my hair is all over the place, but what the heck, this is reality!
After a good week of reflecting I have finally picked my word for the year; Purpose.
I have chosen to pick this word, because it is a word I know will help me straighten out my goals and keep me focus. I feel like everything we do in present time is very valuable and if we don’t have a purpose in doing what we are doing then we probably should not be investing our time and effort on it.
For a period of my time this past year, I caught myself browsing Pinterest and Instagram for an extended time and I felt like I invested so much time doing things that really had no purpose. I found myself comparing to others, devaluing my effort because my followers and likes weren’t as high as other bloggers and wishing I had certain things that others had that I didn’t. Social media can really steel your happiness if you don’t learn your purpose of using it. My purpose of using social media is not to compare myself or to devalue my work, it is to inspire women to love their imperfect selves, inspire others to be creative with their fashion and style on a budget, and to share my personal experiences to empower, inspire and lift other women. With purpose, I tend to use my time wisely on social media so that I can also live in the present time.
I also found value in selecting purpose for my career. I believe in keeping the end in mind and planning backwards in order to obtain goals. The questions below is a tool you can use as a guide if you are working on creating your goals for the new year.
1.What is the outcome that you tend to achieve by the end of the year? (or months)
2.What is the purpose of obtaining this goal?
3.What do you need to do in order to obtain those goals?
4.How do you plan on obtaining those goals?
These are questions I usually use to guide my instruction & curriculum and plan to use for my career goals as well.
Moreover, I want to refine and refocus on what it means to be a Christian. Scriptures says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” Romans 12:2. I know with all the influence that social media has it is easy for one to get caught up in the mix of the worldly things. Finding the true purpose of serving and loving others and our Lord & Savior is definitely an ongoing goal I want to continue to refine as a Christian. Setting out my purpose in life starts and ends with the Lord and is a personal preference I hope to share more of with others this year.
What word did you choose for 2019? How did you finalize your word? I would love to read your response so let me know below and comment!

Love the word Purpose! I spend a lot of time browsing and looking for things and by the time I know it, I just lost an hour of browsing really nothing. Lol. But if I remind myself of my purpose I can help manage my time and use on Social Media.
Yes, I think a lot of us do it out of habit! I’m glad you read my post!
